sweet-tooth actually diabetes

Contrary to popular belief, the delight with which local resident Horace J. Winston consumes sweets is not due to a sweet-tooth of yore. In fact, his endocrinological system - having been subjected to decades of frequent alcohol consumption combined with a sedentary lifestyle - is now struggling to adequately regulate Winston’s blood-glucose levels. Unless he makes drastic changes in his daily patterns and habits within the next couple of years, his condition will be exacerbated, and worsen.

On an average day, Horace consumes at least five beers in one sitting, two meals of primarily meats and cheeses; he drives nearly everywhere he must go, walking only a few miles cumulatively. (In secret, Winston knows something is amiss inside but chooses to blame it on the common cold or changes in the weather.)

No one in his circle of friends or relatives appears concerned about the Winston’s fate, however, since they are clueless to the signs of onsetting diabetes and themselves engaged heavily in both sloth and overindulgence. With health insurance priced out of his reach, Horace will also not be seeing a doctor, anytime soon.

dreamstate writing 14 Dec 2017

I was in a throng of other people all queueing for to meet a powerful goddess. Beyond the sunken earthen trench in which we stood waiting lay snow on frozen ground. Set into the walls of the trench every few meters were crude cubbyholes fashioned out of unfinished pine logs, some of which I recognized as places I’ve slept rough. To our right and stretching above us reached a tall building clad in dark marble panels. As we stepped forward to be received we passed by a number of glass-doored rooms recently emptied of their inhabitants.

When it was finally my turn to be judged, the goddess swirled around me, prodding at my various bits and weighing my soul against Truth. From her back and the top of her head appeared to rise glimmering tendrils of an infinite, invisible energy. In the room with us were dozens of watching people, the formerly queueing multitudes. The goddess noted my progress in many areas, challenging me to defend my case to become bodhisattva. I pointed out the steps I’ve made toward living a life of virtue and compassion but was found lacking, and shown the door.

I returned briefly to consciousness (discovering there a full and pressing bladder), then fell back asleep. The dreaming continued in a vast subterranean room (which, too, was paneled with slabs of dark marble) where I and a number of others were searching for a propellered flying boat that had been lost at sea. Analyzing satellite photographs and old maps we were scouring the wind-swept seas. From time to time I would also put my ear to a staticky handheld radio, hoping to detect a clue. Out of the white noise lept a single word, one which caused excitement yet confusion among the dozen-odd people individuals there: America.

tardigrade cosmonaut honored

During a brief ceremony held in a former outdoor smoking shelter behind the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pastor Tina, CA, scientists preparing for an impending launch stood still during a moment of silence ahead of the upcoming launch of a hearty tardigrade. Selected from a group of other hypsibius gagarinorumthe tiny traveler, like intrepid Laika before it, was chosen due to a proven ability to survive in harsh conditions such as extreme cold and prolonged deprivation. Exploiting the animal’s natural cryptobiosis, or suspended metabolism, gives NASA scientists hope that at least one hypsibius gagarinorum tun will reach another star system, most likely the cluster humans call Alpha Centauri.

national guard mobilized

Across the United States of America, the National Guard is being mobilized to protect the homes of the country’s richest inhabitants. Tens of thousands of armed soldiers are moving into place, forming tight cordons around affluent neighborhoods that might possibly at some point in the near future perhaps be threatened by hordes of starving wage-slaves. Armed with the most advanced weapons available, including main battle tanks and attack helicopters, the U.S. Army appears poised to beat back even the most braven assault against the only segment of society that really matters.

Piggybacking on efforts to further shift the tax burden from those who have the most financial resources to those who have the fewest, the decision to use the military to protect America’s privileged few was probably made at the highest levels of the Trump administration. The cost of said mobilization will, of course, also be shouldered and executed by the poor, the needy, and the disenfranchised.

Secret plans obtained by WikiLeaks have exposed the impending activation of Project Cherry Pick, a nation-wide police action which calls for the most physically attractive children of poor families to be rounded up for training in the art of physically pleasuring the rich and the powerful. A flawed democracy, the American empire seems to be backsliding rapidly into an oligarchic tyranny not seen since the debauchery and excess of pre-collapse Rome. Hope remains for those willing and able to keep their hearts pure - and their sixes covered.

peacerist cell discovered

Another group of avowed peacerists was discovered today on a sizeable ranch east of suburban San Diego, California, USA. At least seven individuals were removed from the compound for questioning, all of whom flashed ‘victory’ fingers, known in America as the ‘peace’ sign. Also found on the secluded premises were huge stockpiles of hugs, positive feels, kind words, heartfelt gestures, and other such sappy drivel. Experts indicate that the group was readying to launch a campaign of unconditional loving affection in the upcoming months, or even weeks.

Authorities destroyed plots of spathiphyllum, or peace lilies, that were being cultivated in at least five greenhouses. “It’s crazy to think we’d find this kind of activity here, of all places,” said local sheriff Pietro Nunez-Smith. “I’m just glad these peacerists were found before they launched any type of caring, or affirmative, action.”

“This is a war-loving town,” said Georgina T. Robinsceau, a city councilperson. “Companies here produce and sell tens of billions of dollars of weapons to militaries, dictators, and militant groups around the world. Who would have imagined that vile peacerists would want to disrupt such commerce? I’m sickened.” The number of peacerists attacks on soft targets is expected to increase in direct proportion to the scale and scope of ongoing wars, worldwide.

another union, gone

Forty-eight years after one of its members actually got paid to do the job, the American Domestic Rice Cooker’s Union (ADRCU) finally disbanded. Founded in 1895 by a group of house-maids from San Francisco, the Union had seen its number drop dramatically since the introduction of low-cost, automated devices. “We just can’t compete with computerized, electric rice cookers that do the job perfectly, every time,” said Yolanda T. Ching, a spokesperson for the ADRCU. “That, and a drastic reduction in the number of people wealthy enough to hire cooks and maids, sounded the death-knell for our lovely group.”

Former members are slated to receive training as taxi drivers, foundry workers, and call-center operators, jobs that the Union’s leadership thinks will soon return to the United States. Also at risk of extinction are labor organizations representing American retail workers, cotton pickers, and coal shovelers.

on eating horse

The city of Elizabeth, New Jersey, United States, recently secured state funding to construct a processing plant for horse-meat. A lean, tender, and slightly sweet meat, the plant plans to ship its culinary delicacies to populations in the greater New York metropolitan area whose cultures and traditions embrace it. Although the use of horses for food is illegal in several U.S. states, Edible Equine Holdings Ltd., which will operate the plant, says that it’s time opinions changed. “There’s no rational reason to eat cows and goats but not horses,” according to a company press release. The plant’s slaughtering facility will receive shipments of horses from farms in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, and New York.

“In 732 C.E., Pope Gregory III banned the eating of horses in an effort to stamp out Germanic pagan ceremonies,” said food scientist Dr. Shiu Wen Ha of the American School of Gastronomy and Culinary Design, in Wanborough, Connecticut. “Now, in the year 2017, in the USA, it’s time to set aside Early Medieval notions and embrace the consumption of flesh from all animals.”

Priestesses of Epona, a horse goddess of ancient Europe, could not be reached for comment, as they no longer exist.

solar farm built

Ground was broken today on the second of three solar farms planned to be built this decade in the Great Dune Sea north-west of the city of Gar Nuuzsh, in eastern Grigovia. Solar energy will be used to heat salt to roughly 300 degrees Celsius. Then, the molten salt - a mixture of nitrates calcium, potassium, and sodium - will flow through insulated underground pipes into concrete storage tanks situated throughout Gar Nuuzsh.

Once all three farms are operational, nearly half of the city’s 100,000 residents will be able to draw both electricity and heat from the storage tanks. Unassuming silos that resemble conventional oil storage tanks, the heat sinks will be topped with viewing platforms and surrounded by community gardens. External sections of each sink will be set aside for graffiti and the application of other spontaneously-occurring works of public art.

By 2030, Gar Nuuzsh plans to cover all of its electrical and heating needs from six such solar farms. Additionally, parabolic dish Stirling solar energy conversion systems installed on rooftops around the city will feed heat into the sinks and electricity into the local power grid. Cities in more mountainous western Grigovia generate a good portion of their electricity using wind and geothermal deposits.

mantis meets mate

While waiting patiently for prey to pass, stagmomantis carolina female Z’zhhchk’t spied an apparently suitable mate coming slowly over nearby rocks. Curious, she cocked her grey head toward him, focusing him squarely in her binocular vision, and made subtle sounds to indicate she was in heat. The male began his mating dance, swaying this way then that and rearing up in playful menace on his hind legs.

Finding him properly strong and graceful, Z’zhhchk’t moved into a welcoming position, flashing her eyespots seductively. The male approached further. Once copulation had commenced and he was firmly locked within her grasping fore-claws, she used her powerful pincers to remove his at the base of the neck, eating it as his genetic material fertilized her.

Once impregnated fully, Z’zhhchk’t consumed the rest of his body before settling back into ambush-predator mode, her speckled exoskeleton and complete stillness making her all but disappear into the surrounding terrain. Within her abdomen, cells split, then split again.

pane panel glass

It was dusty, for it was seldom cleaned. Someone had touched it once, leaving a handprint behind, a ghostly reminded of past presence. Cobwebs grew against the plastic separating it from its neighbor, fake wooden slats poorly disguising that it was one contiguous sheet.

During the summer months, mosquitos pushed in futility against it, trying to reach the things living inside, whom it protected. Now, though, frigid winds caressing its smooth surface, the pane was only bumped by the occasional flailing branch or falling leaf.

With painfully glacial slowness, the semi-liquid panel oozed downward, drawn by gravity’s weak force toward the battered flooring panels below. Warmed a few hours each day by the setting sun, the window looked out over a peaceful garden in which a snuffling shih tzu sometimes barked.

spoon hoard plundered

The residents of Ouray, CO, awoke this morning to find their drawers and cupboards emptied of spoons. The world-famous Museum of Spoon and Utensils, which occupies an Art Deco building in the hamlet’s quaint downtown, sits all but empty, most of its collection gone.

Local police deputy Yolanda Esperanza said that foul play had been ruled out early in her investigation of the matter. “There were no signs of forced entry, anywhere,” she said, scanning the area in bewilderment from the Ouray Overlook. “Who, or what, would want all those spoons?”

Archival records located in the town library tell of a similar instance, in 1887, during which large quantities of buttons vanished, seemingly overnight. “Given the large-scale mining activities in this area,” the newspaper reads, “superstitious locals have been attributing the recent thefts to a mountain sprite, or kobold, scared aboveground by blasting dynamite.”

love slave obtained

Area resident Jacinda Grace Stanton recently purchased a new love slave (to replace the one she’d neglected to death). Though initially excited about being taken from the puppy mill where most of its litter-mates had died, the love slave, whom she named ‘Doggie Dearest,’ is quickly learning that life in its new home is not much better.

Ms. Stanton does not plan to take her newly acquired love slave on four daily walks, feed it properly and at regular intervals, take time to understand its language or moods, respect its right to live a stress-free life, or treat it with the dignity that a sentient being deserves. Instead, she intends to scold it when it voids its bowels inside her home due to lack of access to the out-of-doors, yell at it when it whines about being hungry, complain about having to take it to the vet after letting it suffer a massive skin infection for months, and leave it at home without food for days on end while she engages in multiple new romantic relationships.

Jacinda plans to hug her love slave from time to time, look quizzically at it when it barks, keep it trapped in her bedroom from 9pm until noon of the next day, ignore its needs while manipulating her mobile phone, occasionally lock it outside on a bare concrete pad overnight, and then insist on telling everyone she knows how much she loves animals but never washing out her love slave’s water bowl and only refilling it when it’s completely empty. The nation and state in which Ms. Stanton lives legally defines animals not as living things but as property, however, meaning that she’s not doing anything wrong - technically.

[This is a work of satire. Any reference to a person or persons living or dead is purely coincidental. Please treat living things under your control with the utmost respect and dignity.]

backpack sales soar

Following the arrest of failed European-American (i.e. ‘white’) terrorist Michael Christopher Estes, who allegedly planted a homemade bomb at the Asheville Regional Airport in North Carolina on 6 October 2017, outdoor goods manufacturers are reporting that backpacks are flying off the shelves. “We are overjoyed that the bomb was removed before it harmed anybody,” said a spokesperson for REI, whose equipment was used by the alleged domestic terrorist. “Furthermore, we’re moving Traverse 70 packs like hot-cakes.”

Numbers are also up for the sellers of glass jars, fuel oil, nails, duct tape, and polymer spoons. Although it is often quick to condemn acts by brown-skinned individuals, the regime of fake president D.J. Trump has not issued a single comment or tweet regarding the allegedly terroristic acts and intentions of Michael Christopher Estes, whose skin is the color of an unripe peach.

area man’s strongest superlative is ‘cool’

Despite having had access to at least four separate dictionaries since moving back in with his parents three years ago, local hipster Sheldon T. Whittiesworth, 34, cannot seem to progress beyond ‘cool’. Whether it’s a wicked new movie or a sublime solar eclipse, Sheldon uses ‘cool’ as his go-to superlative expression in times of supreme emotionality and intense agitation.

Among the things, events, and places that Mr. Whittiesworth defined as being ‘cool’ are his thousand-dollar mobile phone, the birth of his first child, and the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, NL. According to sources, Sheldon recently experimented with using the word ‘rad’ for a few weeks before reverting to his previous monosyllabic and thermological preference.

Persons close to Mr. Whittiesworth indicate that, out of all units of language available, the last word they think about when contemplating his existence is ‘cool.’

Grigovia urges calm

Following recent bellicose rhetoric coming from DPRK leader Kim Jong Un and US leader Donald J. Trump, the Parliament of the Glorious Republic of Grigovia released an unanimous statement urging calm. “Nuclear war is against the interests of all humanity,” said prime minister Dr. Frederikka Velldoyend, whose Freedom and Prosperity Party holds a slight majority of seats in the bicameral body. “America is the only nation in the world to have used nuclear weapons in anger; we beg for cool heads to now prevail.” (In Grigovia, the Senate is populated by ten persons selected by the governing body of each independent city-state and canton, and the Congress is selected via popular vote. Similar to the Swiss system, the Grigovian Parliament oversees and manages foreign policy, national defense, federal railways, and the mint.)

“War must only be used as a last resort, a strategy employed once all other options have been exhausted,” said national defense minister Hennda Uilyest of the Grigovian Conservative Green Party. “Diplomacy, cooperation, and open markets alone can assure the future prosperity of all mankind.” Shortly after gaining its independence from the Soviet Union, in 1988, Grigovia dismantled all nuclear weapons the Russians had stored on its soil and promptly joined the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICANW).

“Tinpot tyrants, be they Korean or Ynki, do not have permission to engage in nuclear war,” said Buiryest Darghennd, a 14-year-old student from Pryaghdoyest. “My grandparents fought against the Nazis in the Second World War; their words are still fresh in my mind: ‘Show not mercy, nor give quarter, to those who threaten innocent people with death and destruction.’”
