Ground was broken today on the second of three solar farms planned to be built this decade in the Great Dune Sea north-west of the city of Gar Nuuzsh, in eastern Grigovia. Solar energy will be used to heat salt to roughly 300 degrees Celsius. Then, the molten salt - a mixture of nitrates calcium, potassium, and sodium - will flow through insulated underground pipes into concrete storage tanks situated throughout Gar Nuuzsh.

Once all three farms are operational, nearly half of the city’s 100,000 residents will be able to draw both electricity and heat from the storage tanks. Unassuming silos that resemble conventional oil storage tanks, the heat sinks will be topped with viewing platforms and surrounded by community gardens. External sections of each sink will be set aside for graffiti and the application of other spontaneously-occurring works of public art.

By 2030, Gar Nuuzsh plans to cover all of its electrical and heating needs from six such solar farms. Additionally, parabolic dish Stirling solar energy conversion systems installed on rooftops around the city will feed heat into the sinks and electricity into the local power grid. Cities in more mountainous western Grigovia generate a good portion of their electricity using wind and geothermal deposits.

For days it toiled, dashing itself against every available transparent surface, smashing head and body into anything that might have been a Way Back Outside. For days it wandered among the bodies of its fallen brethren, searching for who-knows-what, picking perhaps a bit of sustenance from their parched bodies, dry and dessicated corpses that litter the various sills haphazardly. Occasionally, it would harass the bipedal organism that was the only other large, hirsute beast moving around inside the space where it had become trapped, landing upon the large thing's hairy bits and causing it to swipe about blindly with one or both of its five-fingered claws. Only too infrequently was the fly seen to exit a trash can or to rise from an uncovered dish of food, places where it might have had occasion to feed, leading the large thing to believe that the fly lived on dust alone.

And then – what joy! – the fly happened to follow the hirsute beast toward one particular transparent rectangular surface, which the large thing then caused to open, making a Way Back Outside and allowing our hero to escape. Such was its excitement, and such was its relief, that it flew about for some time not looking where it was going, and, since while trapped it had not been hounded by birds or chased by larger insects, it had all but forgotten about the perils ubiquitous to Nature, flying directly into the web of sister spider, who promptly bound it up in tight turns of her silken threads, and ate it.

Windlehamshire County Estates, an exclusive retirement community in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, is seeking a new spray butler. Duties shall include the following: maintaining an even sheen of freshly frozen mist on the ice-sculpture of a winged horse located on our main gravel driveway; seeing to the proper functioning of the shower nozzles in each of our 100 guests' private quarters; tending to the stables – once a day after luncheon-time – in order to keep any available mounts cool by soaking them down nicely with a hose; attending afternoon teatime and evening dinners so as to apply spray-able butter to any dishes that should require it; keeping a running, mental record – to be recited upon request – of any spray-marks that appear to have been made by one Lucius “Puss-Puss” Gringlewort, a male cat belonging to Mrs. Charles D. Gringlewort, whose whereabouts have been in doubt for some time now; and, finally, spraying out the grease pit in the kitchen after it closes for the day.

Applicants are expected to be fluent in Queen's English, to possess of at least three years of previous spray butler experience (or proof of recent education in the finer points of spray butlery), to be punctual, polite, and financially well-off, to exhibit an inherent need to attend to the many spraying-related activities that take place in retirement communities such as our own, and to lack any desire to spray his man-seed upon the faces or clothing of such elderly persons as may be in his immediate vicinity.
